Nia Spaulding
mezzo-soprano
Nia Spaulding attends the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) working toward her bachelor’s degree of music in voice performance. She currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. She is a third year undergraduate studying with Dr. Gwendolyn Coleman. At CCM she sings in the Chorale Choir, directed by Dr. Brett Scott, and in Opera d’arte, the undergraduate opera ensemble. Her roles at CCM have includes Public Opinion in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Dritte Dame cover in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and she is expected to sing Zita in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and 2nd Witch in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. In the summer of 2022, she performed the role of La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica (Purcell) with the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia (Mexico) and extended her Italian studies as part of Academia Vocale Lorenzo Malfatti, in Lucca, Italy. Nia concluded 2022 singing in the chorus of the CCM graduate opera, Dialogue of Des Carmelites (Poulenc). Nia is excited to be a 2023 summer fellow and member of the Lehrer Vocal Institute this summer at the Music Academy. The generosity of the academy allows her to indulge in the numerous learning opportunities with teachers and artists she admires, as well as performance opportunities that will continue to impact her as a young artist. In such a beautiful part of the country, Nia looks forward to making musical connections with others who share the same passion.
