Louise Shackelton
Louise Shackelton is an accomplished orchestral violinist. She played in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle as Co-Principal Second Violin from 1994-2001 and then joined the London Symphony Orchestra where she remains. Ms. Shackelton has been on the Board of the London Symphony Orchestra working on orchestral strategy and decision making. She has also been involved in music education with both the LSO and the CBSO, participating in innovative music education programs in inner city schools. She moved to New York City with her husband and two sons in 2013. In New York she worked for the New York Philharmonic, creating the Global Academy training program with the Music Academy of the West for talented pre-professional orchestral musicians. In 2016 she returned to the Philharmonic to put together a global orchestra for Alan Gilbert. Musicians for Unity was launched in June, 2017 with three performances with the New York Philharmonic. Musicians from across the globe came together to play, show, and discuss how music and art can contribute to a more peaceful society. She continues to go back regularly to London to play with the LSO.
